6 Ways to Get Inspired When You’re Feeling Down

Hey guys! I’m Amy from Living with ME and I write predominantly about chronic illness (ME/CFS), health, university and some general lifestyle!



Today, I’m going to give you a few different ways to get inspired when you’re feeling down. I personally have been in a bit of a rut this past week, due to some health issues, but I’m hoping that by following my own advice, I will get back to being inspired and creative again!

It’s always difficult to get or feel even slightly inspired when you’re feeling down, but inspiration is key if you want to smash your goals, whether that be in blogging, fitness, studying, work… You name it, inspiration will play a HUGE part in your life.

So let’s get started!

Read a Book or Magazine
Reading a book can definitely help you feel inspired. if I’m reading an inspirational book, it’s only natural that you start to feel inspired. You won’t want to just sit in bed watching the soaps all day; you’ll want to get up and get working towards all those goals of yours! I personally recommend a book with a strong inspiring main character, such as The Woman of Substance or Gone with the Wind, both of which have strong female characters – how about that for inspiration!

If you’re not into books, try reading a magazine! When I’m in a rut with my health and fitness, I love reading the Women’s Health magazine! It’s full of great ideas, tips and advice and always gets me ready to smash out a workout or try a new healthy recipe.

Go for a Walk
This might seem really simple, but sometimes just going for a walk can really brighten up your day and help you to feel inspired. There’s the saying ‘smell the roses’, and that’s exactly what you need to do in order to feel inspired again. Go out into nature, and take time to appreciate all the beautiful things that surround you. Don’t spend that time glued to your phone, lift your head up and take in the scenery, and you will soon feel a whole lot more inspired than before.



Listen to some Music
I have a playlist on my iPhone specially for those moments when I’m feeling down. Get together some of your favourite songs, and sing along at the top of your voice like no one is listening! Dance like no one is watching! You will soon feel a lot better about everything, and inspiration might just hit during your boogie!

Exercise
Exercise has so many benefits, but for me, it definitely helps keep me feeling inspired. Doing exercise gives me the opportunity to feel positive and good about life, and when you’ve finished you’ll have all those happy endorphins, so make use of those! I always feel the most productive and motivated once I’ve done some exercise, and so naturally, I start to feel inspired too! Some of my best work and ideas have been done shortly after doing some exercise!

Try Something New
This might seem like a strange way to get inspired but believe me, it works. Whenever I decide to try something new, like a new exercise group class, or a new recipe, or even reading a new blog, I instantly feel inspired to do similar things more often. I’m not sure how it works, but if you’re doing something new and different and you’re enjoying yourself, of course you’re going to feel better, and as a result, you’ll begin to feel inspired!

Keep Track of your Goals
I cannot tell you how important this is! At the beginning of 2017, I got a notebook and dedicated it to my goals. One the first page are yearly goals and things I want to do, and the following pages are for weekly goals and things to do! This way, if I’m ever feeling uninspired, I can look in my notebook and see what goals I want to achieve that week, and also, which goals I’ve already achieved! By doing this, you will continually inspire yourself to keep reaching for those goals, and creating new ones each week!


So there you go, there’s 6 ways to help get inspired! I think we can all agree that inspiration is key when you’re in a rut. There is nothing you need more than a wave of inspiration to hit so you can get out of that rut and start smashing your goals!
